My name is Rafiqi Asyraaf Bin Abdul Rahman. I am 25 years old and born in September 1st 1993. I live in Ipoh, Perak but I was born in Segamat, Johor. I have 4 siblings and I am the eldest. I have my degree in Bachelor Science (Dietetics) in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for 4 years from 2012 to 2016 and graduated on October 2016.
Before graduating, I have my 1 year of practical attachment in Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB), National Diabetes Institute (NADI), & Hospita Serdang. My attachment is for:
1) Food Services
2) Inpatient 1
3) Inpatient 2
4) Outpatient
5) Community Services
6) Special Units
After graduating, I get an offer to be a Locum Dietitian to replace the current dietitian in Hospital Fatimah (one of private hospital in Ipoh) that is going for her maternity leave for 4 months. So, I jist spent 2 weeks with her exposed to a lot of things in the hospital and introduced me to all staffs in the hospital to make sure my job will be done much more easier after this.
It is an honor to have this opportunity even though it is just a contract-based job. As a frrsh graduate at that time, to be honest, I faced a lot of challenges after Ms Mok (Dietitian) go for her maternity leave. But thanks to all the healthcare professional and staffs because they always make my work easier by give suggestions and let me know in details about patients and interventions.
Not to forget, Mr Phuah (Food Services Dietitian) that alwats give moral support on how can I overcome challenges in the hospital. Even though, I faced a lot of difficulties, but it is a great experience for me to improve myself as a dietitian.
After I end my contract on April 2017, I get an offer to be a Nutrition Advisor or Locum Dietitian under these 3 company:
1) Hospital Pantai Ipoh
2) Abbott Nutrition
3) M&B Medical Marketing
For this job, it is a bit different compared to my previous job, and my focus is more towards doing a survey of malnutrition among newly admitted patients. I am using MUST Screening Tools to see if there is potential for the patients to get malnourished. After do the survey, I will straight away give consultation on how to improve their appetite and make sure they eat regularly to have good nutritional intake. Because without having good meals, it is difficult for the patients to improve their condition and increase thr length of hospital stay.
After I end my contract on June 2017, syukur alhamdulillah, I get an offer to be a Nutritionist in AEON Wellness Kinta City Ipoh. It is a permenant job and located near to my house. Syukur alhamdulillah Ya Allah 😘🤗. For this job, I have to promote and help the customer to purchase the items that is needed by them mainly in vitamins, supplement, health foods and OTC. At the same time, I need to do a health check for customer that really want to check their health status such as:
1) Cholesterol/Lipid Profile
2) Blood sugar Profile
3) Uric acid Profile
4) Blood pressure
After having their result in 10 minutes, I have to give some consultation to them and promote some of the products available to improve their health status. It is a new working environment for me because it is a retail industry but I can apply my knowledge and experience as dietitian in this industry.
I am very passionate to be a dietitian because every time I get into the hospital, it makes me excited to meet my patients to communicate to my patients, & to help my patients. So that is why I will definetely become a dietitian in government sector one fine day. InshaAllah (Dengan Izin Allah). So pray for me everyone so that I can achieve my dreams and help my family.
